In conjunction
with funding support from the previous Department of Primary
Industries and Energy's Agribusiness Program, AUFTAC developed the
1996/2000 Code of Practice for the Road Transportation of Fresh Produce.
The Code of Practice focuses on delivering quality fresh produce to
consumers and quality in service to customers. More than 400 codes are
now in circulation in all sectors of the horticulture industry.
Implementation is voluntary. AUFTAC members have fully endorsed the
Code of Practice as a risk management strategy for all road transport
businesses specialising in the distribution of horticultural products.
The AUFTAC
Code of Practice manual is presented as a ring-back binder comprising
three booklets.
Booklet 1:
Scope, objectives, policy statement and interim minimum specifications
for equipment.
Booklet 2:
Series of recommended procedures based on "Best Practice", corrective
action procedures, checklists and check sheets for monitoring and
auditing systems.
Booklet 3:
Technical support information specifically relating
to the transport of fresh produce within the Australian distribution
system.
The 1996/2000
Code of Practice for the Road Transportation of Fresh Produce links
into another industry accreditation program, "Trucksafe", conducted by
the Australian Trucking
Association. This program addresses vehicle maintenance, road
safety , driver health issues and provides the opportunity for
carriers to manage fatigue with the information programs. The Code of
Practice is available for purchase to all members, manufacturers and
other industry personnel at a charge of $100.00 per copy. The Code of
Practice clearly defines the responsibilities of all parties involved
in the distribution channel and addresses some of the areas that have
caused concern to fresh produce carriers over the years |
